In recent years, Lebanon has been witnessing severe economic fluctuations and political crises. With the most latter being the significant decline in the value of the national currency to more than 80% of its standardized value. The outbreak of the pandemic (Coronavirus/Covid-19), lockdown, public strikes, the political instability along with the previously mentioned above have caused huge losses to the less fortunate of families due to the very expensive cost of living and critical financial crisis. At present, nearly a million people in Lebanon live below the poverty line and are barely able to meet most of their basic human needs.
With the absence of any development prospect, the association is prepared to respond to any humanitarian emergency to contribute to the alleviation of the crisis, and thus introduced a ‘’Social Solidarity’’ program in 2020, that aims to aid the less fortunate and those highly affected people by the crisis in the towns of Southern Lebanon to provide the necessary support and requirements needed to enhance their abilities to persist and resiliently face the current difficult circumstances.
Program:
The “Social Solidarity” program aims to provide food aids, cash allowances to families in need to enable them to meet their basic needs, and medicines and infant formula, as well as renovating and rehabilitating homes lacking basic services and necessities, and covering the costs of hospitalization and providing educational grants.
This program is funded by young Lebanese groups in the countries of emigration and adopts the principle of transparency and accountability by monthly reporting to funders details on the number of beneficiaries and the types of aids and services provided with financial audit.
Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals:
Our goal is to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by:
- Reducing the spread of hunger and poverty
- Providing basic health care services
- Offering educational grants and educational assistance for males and females
- Paying special attention to the needs of people living in vulnerable conditions, especially women, children, persons with disabilities and the elderly
- Promoting social cohesion and stability in the face of factors that overburden the country
The general objective:
“Enable crisis-affected families in rural areas to survive.”
Special goals:
-
Provide basic living needs for the deprived families and individuals during emergency situations.
Like the rest of Lebanon, the repercussions of the series of crises taking place have had a major impact on the people of Southern Lebanon towns and their living conditions. Therefore, we are witnessing a gradual disappearance of the middle class and an accession of the majority to the poor, especially since most of the population in the region are originally of low-incomes as a result of the majority working in the agricultural sector and the self-employed. Most families in Southern Lebanon are no longer able to meet their basic needs in these current circumstances and need various kinds of support in order to remain resilient and persistent.
-
Respond rapidly to disasters and crises to enhance the ability of affected communities to overcome the bestowed circumstances.
In cases of natural disasters and unstable security situations or any serious disruption in the performance of society that causes humanitarian, physical, economic or/and environmental losses on a large scale that exceeds the ability of the affected community to tackle it using its own resources, the association is ready to cooperate with similar associations and international organizations to mitigate the problem and reduce its risks. The association devotes all its human and financial resources to provide assistance and intervene to preserve lives and respond to the needs of affected population. We are also fully prepared to extend a helping hand to all interventions dealing with refugee affairs in Lebanon.
